PAGAN PRIDE PICNIC
Sunday 9th August 2009
The Forest Recreation Ground; Nottingham.
. .. An open public picnic in celebration of Nottingham’s Pagan Community. .
We were blessed with absolutely gorgeous weather all day for the first ever Pagan Pride event here in Notts ~ a picnic held on the Forest Rec… some in the sun, some under the shade of a tree as it turned out. The reason for the event was for Nottingham’s Pagan Community to gather and celebrate Lammas together as also raise awareness (and a bit of cash too…!) for Pagan Pride events, namely the planned parade on Sunday 1st August 2010
Over 70 people met behind the Pavilion building between 12pm & 4pm and brought food, instruments, poi and most importantly… good company
It also should be mentioned that many put their hands in their pockets
and bought tickets for the raffle (prizes donated by SpellCrafters)
and green Pagan Pride Ribbons raising £65! Mind you when a 6ft biker is the one canvassing for your change it’s hard to refuse…!!
.People stayed all afternoon to chat and bask in the sunshine, there were even a few inquisitive by-standers interested to know why we were gathered and what Paganism actually is, and this is what Pagan Pride events are really all about…
Raising awareness in the wider community of Paganism, our celebrations and culture, being proud to be seen and dispelling old myths of all witches being bad people, giving courage to Pagans to stand up and be counted when it comes to next Census in 2011
.
A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who came and supported this event, and also to the SpellCrafters group members who acted as marshals and helped out with litter picking, raffle ticket selling and cake-eating!
